Give That Door The Right Knob
Victor Nunn
As the saying goes "Tell me who your friends are and I will
tell you who you are". This also holds true by looking at our
things and the stuff that we are using daily. In decorating a
new home or renovating an existing one, one cannot deny the
excitement of choosing or remodeling furniture especially a
cabinet, a drawer or a door. For some it is a lot like
shopping, finding the right combination and accents for the
accessories to match the main theme of the pad.
The main accessories for a cabinet, drawer or door are the
knobs. Presently, knobs come in different forms, functions and
sizes to match every imaginable furniture design. But the main
purpose of the knob is its function. Before laying an eye on
that intricate designed knob in your specialty hardware store,
you must first identify the function of the furniture. Look
into the functions of your furniture first and asses if the
knobs you had in mind can sustain through the future wear and
tear. Here are some types of knobs that can help you in your
quest:
The conventional knobs:
Brass knobs. These types of knobs are typically used for
Victorian inspired furniture and doors. They are good for light
to medium load usage.
Aluminum knobs. These are a good accent for those chrome /
steel themed drawers and cabinets. This material is good for
the kitchen or the bathroom since aluminum does not rust.
Plastic knobs. These are typically brightly colored knobs
that come with hundreds of designs to choose from, may it be
animal shaped or in alphabet letters. These types of knobs are
practically applicable to all furniture in the house since
plastic will not rust and can easily be wiped with a piece of
damp cloth.
Wooden knobs. These are knobs that are best used in the
office, bedroom or study room. Avoid using this on areas of the
house that is constantly wet or damp such as the bathroom or the
kitchen.
Crystal or Glass knobs. This is a new member in the family of
knobs. Recently the prices of blown molded glass has
substantially dropped due to modernization in the craft of
glass making, hence making way to very affordable glass knobs.
These types of knobs present a delicate and elegant look on
your furniture or bathroom door. These types of knobs also
compliment the Victorian inspired furniture. But be warned that
the function of the furniture using this should only be carrying
light loads to prevent the knob from breaking due to strain.
